Benjamin Leventhal Hicks is a litigation partner at Shumener, Odson & Oh LLP focused on complex civil litigation and real estate litigation. Mr. Hicks has represented private equity funds, financial institutions, corporations, partnerships, and high net worth individuals in a wide range of matters – e.g., partnership disputes, construction defects, lease disputes, loan disputes, entitlement disputes, land use, commercial unlawful detainer, purchase and sale agreements, receiverships, judgment collection, and liens, among other things.
Mr. Hicks has extensive experience managing litigation from outset, through jury trial, and appeal. As an example, in one recent case involving a disgruntled former tenant of his client, Mr. Hicks, along with another partner and associate of the firm, successfully obtained a jury verdict and final judgment on all counts – defeating claims of forcible detainer, trespass, breach of contract, negligence, and more – following a twenty-seven Court day jury trial.
Before joining Shumener, Odson & Oh LLP, Mr. Hicks served as an extern to the Honorable Judge Dolly M. Gee of the United States District Court for the Central District of California. Mr. Hicks also worked as a Student Attorney with the International Human Rights Clinic at the University of Southern California, under Hannah Garry, briefing disputes before the International Commission on Human Rights at the Organization of American States. Mr. Hicks also worked with asylum seekers and victims of human trafficking, to assist such victims in obtaining legal residency and protected status.
